The oversized and heavy cargo transportation by railways in CIS and EU countries. Reloading in the ports of Ukraine, Turkey, Russia, Lithuania

The oversized loads have the dimensions that exceed the maximums set for the length, width, height or weight

This category, for railway transportation in CIS countries, include loads heavier than 60 tons/unit, longer than 14 meters (universal platform length is 13.3 meters),width greater than 3.25 meters and height over 5.3 meters.
At the same time the maximum permissible weight of the load is 500 tons and the transportation possibilities are limited by the dimensions of railway tunnels and bridges.

The most common types of oversized transportations:
-heavy construction equipment (excavators,greyders,trucks,etc. )
-drilling installations
-metal constructions
-oversized equipment (parts of chemical plants, cement plants,etc. )

The transportation of the oversized loads by train is the best option, especially at the medium and large distances. The weight limits for most trucks is only 20 tons. As stated above, loads weighing up to 500 tons may be carried by railway.

In order to proceed with the client request for such type of transportation, we need the following information:
-the oversized load sketch in several projections
-the name, the size and the weight of the cargo
-the period of time and the route requested for transportation

The process of oversized transportation can be divided into several main stages:
-developing the scheme for loading and lashing of the cargo in wagons (platforms, open top wagons, transporters)
-coordinating the developed scheme with the oversized cargo department of the railways
-requesting coordination with all transit railways
-buying the necessary materials for lashing loads on the wagon
—ensuring the wagons to load, loading and lasing of the cargo as stated in coordinated scheme
-if construction equipment are transported — dismantling headlamps, windscreen wipers, batteries etc., storing them into the cabin; covering the windows and fragile items with protective materials.
-filing the transit papers in ports
-filing the SMGS or CIM papers
-forwarding the cargo to the railway station
-paying the services provided by the loading bay (maneuvers, standing wagons/TOU) —taking pictures of the loads and sending them by email to the client
-if trucks or construction equipment are transported, we are making copies of the keys and are sending them by express mail to the client. Often happens that the keys are lost on the way and the recipient can’t unload the cargo from the wagons, which means huge expenses to pay for the use and guard of the wagons at the station.
